LENT day 8

Something from Purpose Driven Life Week 2 - You were Planned for God's Pleasure
Day 8 - Planned for God's Pleasure:
(quotations in bullets)
  • You exist for his benefit, his glory, his purpose, and his delight. Anything you do that brings pleasure to God is an act of 'worship', a universal urge, hard-wired by God into the very fiber of our being.
  • Worship is a lifestyle. If it is offered to God in spirit and truth, it is an act of worship. Every activity can be transformed into an act of worship when you do it for the praise, glory, and pleasure of God. How is it possible to do everything to the glory of God? By doing everything as if you were doing it for Jesus and by carrying on a continual conversation with him while you do it.
  • When we worship, out goal is to bring pleasure to God, not ourselves.
  • "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." - Colossians 3:23  Work becomes worship when you dedicate it to God and perform it with an awareness of his presence.
So is your 'worship' a day-in/day-out thing or a Sunday thing or even a Easter/Christmas thing? I'm still learning and working out this 'worship lifestyle thing'. In summary, I would have to say the three most important elements in living out a life of worship: open ended prayer ('continual conversation'), 'dedication to God' and 'awareness of His presence'.
Fascinating how this verse from Colossians 3:23 keeps coming back to me. I really doubt it'll ever leave me, kept me going countless times. Harder to see it, especially when it comes to school but definitely need to focus with this mindset. For God, He deserves more than all I can ever offer... yet I want to try. I question how much effort I'm actually putting into it... LENT has been... alright. I know that before LENT I spent a WHOLE lot of time on games and I have NO CLUE where those hours went once I started LENT. Aside from that, yeah I'm a bit behind on invitations to events (don't know what else I'm missing out but shouldn't be that urgent or important). If anything is exceptionally urgent or important, even without my number there's always e-mail. I wonder if we see God the same way. There are times when we feel that He's not with us, not in our life, just non-existent. If life pushes us hard enough, we feel the urgency, we feel the importance/ need for God then we will search for God. He will always have at least ONE way available for us to find Him. The key is OUR willingness and effort put forth. Something to mull over...
