Within four chapters, 'Everything is permissible for me but not everything is beneficial' popped up twice along with repeated warnings not to cause someone else to stumble. I apologize if any of my words or gestures have caused any hindrance of sort. This (somehow) also got me thinking about my many commitments, constant hecticness and chaos. You can say I'm taking words out of context but my mind was not on marriage nor sexual immorality. It says in 1 Corinthians 7:32, "For this world in its present form is passing away." Right when I read that, I felt my self losing consciousness... as if I'm sucked into a black hole. For some reason, I focused my eyes on the lamp above my head and I felt like I was coming back to my senses again. I felt so insecure.... everything that I care about just slipping away from me and I can't do a damn thing about it. All that I do, I feel like perhaps I'm working in vain because maybe I made those commitments not based on God's calling but on my own desires. I can't seem to separate the two. My mind, heart, and soul is so burdened. I want to give it to God but something's holding me back... pride? dedication? compassion? Am I getting too caught up in the technicalities of things and not dedicating enough time to the things that matter most to me? Then there is the part of me that's wondering whether or not I'm too caught up in the past and not living in the present. I feel like I can barely breathe in the present. The future is a blank and I don't mind all that much. My 'future' used to look like a blackened sky with storms ahead on a lonely road. I know God will take care of me; where He leads me, I will go. How can I prove to be a good friend, always there for someone when I myself am so... unstable. I feel like I'm always close to tears and my heart confined in a small box. Haha when my heart doesn't feel confined, it's exponentially growing.
Break my heart for what breaks Yours... what I feel is only a very small fraction of what God feels every moment that passes and it already feels so unbearable.
So many spiritual gifts yet all of them stem from the one Spirit, Holy Spirit. "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit." - 1 Corinthians 12:4. Similarly, all believers are reborn into one body, the body of Christ. Each of us have unique features and functions, all being equal. So I have this thought that perhaps the idea of protection and acceptance are not separate ideas but elements of one idea, love.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Are not patience and kindness prerequisites for acceptance? Doesn't 'to accept' mean to accept the hurt that may come with it, keeping no record of wrongs? Does not acceptance require authenticity, the truth of matters regardless of what it may be? The all encompassing idea of love....
Thank you so much for this Cecilia, I think I read it at the right time. I've been feeling really unstable lately too, which leads to problems when I care for people or deal with my own problems. And sometimes I really feel there's no one I can talk to apart from God..I guess we all just have to learn from Him about LOVE ;)
